The Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest was organized in 1968 to operate a Museum, Archives, and Research Center on behalf of the sister villages of Oak Park and River Forest, Ill.

Located since 1970 on the second floor of the National Historic Landmark Pleasant Home, owned by the Park District of Oak Park, the organization is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit which serves the community by preserving and making accessible artifacts, photographs, documents, and other material that tell stories about the rich heritage of our community.

Tips

Entertaining Historical Programs - We host special programs on a regular basis, ranging from the annual Cemetery Walk in October, to bus tours of historic attractions throughout Illinois. Our talented volunteers are available to make presentations to your group.

Children's Activities - The Children's Room is furnished with "hands-on" toys and gizmos from days of yore. Special speakers and exhibits are can be arranged by appointment, with show-and-tell features for children. Our "Hands-on History Woman" is available to make presentations in the local schools or to groups.
