Located in White River State Park downtown, The Indianapolis Zoo proudly celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2004. Since opening in 1964, the Indianapolis Zoo has grown into a world-class facility hosting a million visitors each year and playing a major role in worldwide conservation and research, including accomplishing the world’s first successful artificial insemination of an African elephant. The Indianapolis Zoo is located in White River State Park downtown and is the only attraction accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the American Association of Museums as a zoo, an aquarium and a botanic garden. Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you, and a better future for all living things. Thank you for posting this! I was recently at the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City on a vacation and found the amount of plant information about the shrubberies around the animal exhibits to be quite lacking. Is the Indianapolis Zoo better at displaying the plant information? I am very interested in Botany and would love to know before I decide to visit! Thanks again.
