Located in Chicago, Illinois, Soldier Field is one of the area’s popular facilities for sports and live entertainment. Soldier Field, formerly known as Municipal Grant Park Stadium, first opened on October 9, 1924 and currently serves as a
memorial to American soldiers. In 1984, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The stadium was closed down in January of 2002 and was re-opened the following year after a complete rebuild. With a seating capacity of 61,500, Chicago’s Soldier Field is currently the smallest stadium facility used in the NFL.

Many of the city’s professional sports teams have at one point or another called Soldier Field their home. Today, Soldier Field is currently home to the NFL’s Chicago Bears. The past success of the Chicago Bears has allowed the Soldier Field schedule to host a number of NFC playoff and championship games. In addition to its popularity in the football scene, Chicago’s Soldier Field has also hosted distinguished sports events like the 1994 FIFA World Cup, the 2009 Gold Cup Semifinals and the US Snowboarding competition. Grand sports events like these have made the Soldier Field Chicago a popular venue for Illinois’ sports fans.

Alongside various sports events, the Soldier Field schedule annually features a number of festivals, music concerts, benefits, weddings and birthday parties. The Soldier Field schedule has also featured special events like American Idol auditions, Drift Car Racing Championships and the 2006 International Gay Games Opening Ceremonies.
